From the Rim: Observation Station

Observation Station: From the Rim interrogates “selfie culture” at the rim of the Grand Canyon through a semi-circle of synchronized iPhones playing appropriated video, backed by a mashup of over one hundred family vacation recordings. By juxtaposing the impulse to document with the need for presence, the work continues my exploration of how technology shapes—and sometimes undermines—our experience of awe in nature.

Installation views of project installed at SPACES in Cleveland, OH as part of the group exhibition, A People’s Museum of Revisionist Natural Itstory, (2015), and at Lawndale Art Center in Houston, TX as part of the 3-person exhibition, Standpoints.
